downdimgd.com – Win32/DomaIQ Malware
I recently came across a website that would redirect users via an ad network to a site posing as a Java update page. The site as since been notified and fixed, but here are the details.
After sitting on a page for a little bit, the page would eventually redirect to a page that looked something like the page below (more details below). So you would be on a page you normally would visit, then in a few seconds, boom, you would be asked to install some malicious software!
RT 4 – Slow Page Loads And Apache CPU Spikes
I recently ran into a server running Best Practical Request Tracker (RT) version 4.0.8 that was having major performance issues displaying certain pages and causing the system to run out of resources.
What was happening was that when a user would click to view a ticket or navigate around a tickets information, it would take a few minutes for the page to load; on the server the Apache processes (httpd) would be spiked at 100% CPU usage.
Here is the output from top for the httpd process while this was occurring.

H&K VP9
If you haven’t heard yet, H&K just released their new VP9 striker fired pistol.
You may not be, but I’m excited about it. They note that they spend a lot of time focusing on the trigger, and that is one thing I HATE about most striker fired guns. It’s also fully ambidextrous, another nice to have feature. Check out H&K’s promo video below.
SWFA SS 10×42 Scope
I purchased a SWFA SS 10×42 scope (the ‘SS’) many years ago, and have been using it, with great success.
At the time I purchased the scope, the $299.95 price was, by far, the most expensive optic I had ever purchased. And even at that low relative price, I have been nothing by extremely happy with the optical quality and overall functionality of the scope. I have used other high-priced scopes and in more than one occasion preferred the SS over options that have cost 4-5x as much.
MRAD vs MOA
If you are looking for a new optic for an intermediate or long range rifle, at some point you will be faced with the question, “Should I get an MRAD or MOA optic?”
There is a lot of information out there on the subject, and I am going to do my best to consolidate the parts that really matter (to me) and explain how you will actually use the optic. Hopefully that will help you decide what will work best for you.
First things first, I’m going to make the assumption that you know what the reticle and turrets of a scope are and that you have a basic understanding of how to use a scope. Now that we have that out of the way, some information that is helpful to have beforehand… if you have an optic that is setup with MRAD (Mil) reticle and MRAD (Mil) turrets (Mil/Mil), everything works almost exactly the same as it does for a setup that has an MOA reticle and MOA turrets (MOA/MOA). The only real issues come into play when you have an optic that has MOA turrets and a Mil reticle (MOA/Mil). I’ll dive into all of that more later, but it helps to know that the variations exist beforehand.
Optics on a budget (Military Arms)
Not everyone has $1,000+ to spend on an optic for their fancy new rifle. In the video below, Mac @ Military Arms goes over some of the more budget friendly options he’s been able to find.
He makes the great point “I have a lot of guns, and honestly I cannot afford to put a Aimpoint T1-Micro on every thing I own.” – Mac (4:11) As your collection of firearms starts to grow, you will run into this issue; and moving optics and having to re-zero on every outing just doesn’t work out!

Is your handgun safe secure?
Is your handgun safe as secure as you think it is? You may want to think again… This report from 2012 outlines some of the major security flaws in many of the safes on the market today. The video mostly focuses on Stack-On brand safes, but many other safes fall into the same “cheep” category… so be aware!
Also, many of the safes outlined in the video are still available for sale from places like Amazon, so definitely do your homework before you by a cheep safe!
